January 2009Factor Design recognized for excellence in AIGA 365 Design Competition. | Printed materials for Sandbox Studio and Solaria were chosen by an esteemed jury from over 4,700 entries to be part of “365: AIGA Annual Design Competition 29,” which features 255 projects selected for outstanding design achievement. Debuting at the AIGA National Design Center in New York, the exhibit of winning entries will travel across the country before becoming part of the AIGA Design Archives, permanently located at the Denver Art Museum. |
December 2008Factor Design helps GE present its strategic framework. | GE turned to Factor Design for help developing an internal presentation that aligns GE’s strategic framework—its long-term strategy as well as 2009 goals—with its brand story and portfolio of businesses. The presentation is meant to provide a clear, cohesive overview of the company, celebrate its strengths, and motivate employees in this challenging economic climate.
Factor Design worked closely with the internal GE leadership team to develop an overall narrative that details GE’s future strategy and intent. Factor Design developed case studies that align specific business-level activities with GE’s culture and brand ethos. These case studies range from a large-scale wind turbine project in China to a research partnership with the investment arm of Abu Dhabi’s government.
Beth Comstock, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, delivered the first presentation to GE’s top 600 leaders at the 2009 Global Leadership Meeting. The ideas and case studies are now being leveraged throughout the organization as the strategic framework is made actionable by leadership across the company. |
December 2008Factor Design relaunches Solaria.com. | As part of an ongoing effort to build and establish the Solaria brand, Factor Design has redesigned and relaunched solaria.com. The new site features interviews with key company leadership, clearly articulates the company’s values and strategic direction, and updates investors on critical milestones in the evolution of the company as it ramps production in its Fremont, California and Phillipines production facilities.
As a solar energy pioneer, Solaria develops and manufactures industry-leading silicon PV products. In 2008, Solaria completed the first commercial shipments of its unique modules, which disrupt the conventional solar energy economic model and can be installed using conventional methods and existing channel partners. |

October 2008New HP Experience store-in-store concept launches at Staples in Milford, Massachusetts. | After successful launches within other European and North American retail stores, Factor Design and Polychrome helped HP launch a new store-in-store retail experience located in a Staples retail store in Milford, Massachusetts. The new HP store-in-store concept consists of new fixtures, merchandising, and communication tools to support the established shopping habits of Staples customers. The environment allows customers to easily orient themselves within the space, identify specific products and solutions, and test-drive and purchase products spanning the entire HP consumer portfolio across desktop PCs, notebooks, and printing and imaging solutions. |
September 2008Factor Design wins two Rebrand 100 Global Awards. | Factor Design’s brand identity work for both Charter Homes and Neighborhoods and Solaria won Merit awards in the 2008 Rebrand 100 competition. The awards celebrate excellence in brand repositioning and showcase the winning entries with before and after images. The Micro Center store-in-store experience establishes another key touch point for HP to launch products and evolve how consumers can test-drive and shop HP’s extensive portfolio of products and solutions. |
July 2008HP experience launches at Harrods in London, England. | Factor Design has launched the first high-end integrated retail experience for HP in Europe in one of the world’s most prestigious department stores—Harrods, London.
Designed and developed by Factor Design and Polychrome in San Francisco, the team has created new fixtures, merchandising standards, and communication tactics to improve the way customers interact with and consider specific HP products and solutions. The experience spans design and production, communications and graphic design, as well as motion graphics and on-screen media.
The HP experience at Harrods is being used as a platform to launch HP’s latest technological innovations in personal computing and imaging and printing products. The HP experience occupies approximately 1,000 square feet on the third floor of Harrods, Knightsbridge. |
June 2008Factor Design helps Steelcase launch innovative new products at NeoCon 2008. | Factor Design collaborated with Steelcase leadership to position and launch several new products at NeoCon 2008 in Chicago. The products (c:scape, media:scape, cobi, and i2i) are specifically designed to foster collaboration through next-generation furniture systems and seating solutions.
Factor Design worked in tandem with internal Steelcase teams to develop content, visual language, and motion graphics used to communicate the benefits of the new conferencing systems and furniture solutions throughout the newly designed showroom. The cornerstone of the space was a multi-screen media wall comprised of 48 synchronized flat-panel displays running a two-and-a-half minute film produced by Factor Design. |
April 2008A new HP experience opens in Johannesburg, South Africa. | Working with an independent entrepreneur in South Africa and in-conjunction with HP, Factor Design and Polychrome helped launch a new retail concept store in Johannesburg,
South Africa. The approximately 1,250 square foot location is the first ever store in South Africa to exclusively sell HP product. |

July 2007Factor Design collaborates with MS FriendsFactor Design is collaborating with MS Friends, a San Francisco non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Factor Design is donating its resources to develop promotional materials for MS Friends’ major fundraising event, Rock for MS.
The charity auction will bring together legendary rock and roll photographers, including Jim Marshall, Bob Gruen, and Jay Maisel, among others, who are donating their original photographs of artists including The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, and many more. May 2007New Palm Foleo packaging designed and developed by Factor Design| Palm, Inc. has launched the new Palm Foleo™, with packaging designed and developed by Factor Design in collaboration with several Palm teams. Dubbed a “mobile companion,” the Foleo™ has been a personal project of Palm founder Jeff Hawkins and represents a category shift in mobile devices. |
April 2007Factor Design Promotional Package wins International Design honor| The Factor Design Promotional Package has won another International Design honor — this time a prestigious IF Communications Design Award from the International Forum Design in Hannover, Germany. For over 50 years, the IF design award has served as a recognized trademark for outstanding design around the world. To date, the promotion has won honors from Graphis, Communication Arts, Print, and the Type Directors Club. |
